Child Care Training Courses
Training is fundamental in order to meet regulatory requirements in the New York State for those planning to work in a child care environment and in order to enhance the professional development of each educator. It also important for each participant to take part in quality efficient programs that build care and support children's growth and development.
The list below is a description of classes and certificate programs that are provided at Hispanoamericana, in our Bronx location, for individuals interested in starting their journey in child care.
Hispanoamericana has approved trainers through the NYS Early Learning Trainer credentialing program, and trained individuals that are approved by the NYS Office of Children & Family Services (OCFS).

Pediatric First Aid/CPR
The American Heart Association Heart Saver Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED course is aimed to meet the regulatory requirement for childcare workers in all 50 states in the United States. This training course is the first step in being able to work in a child care setting.
As stated by the NYS Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS), all child day care programs must have at least one (1) staff person, who holds a valid certificate in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid, on the premises of the child care program during normal operating hours.
By being prepared to perform CPR, and performing in a timely fashion, you can save a life. This certification is valid for 2 years upon receipt.

Health & Safety: 15 Hours Course
Health & Safety: Competencies for Become a Family or Group Family Day Care Provider
As early childhood eduactors, quality care begins with health and safety. For this reason, the NYS Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) requires that all new family or group family day care providers complete a 15-hour state mandate approved training course before becoming a licensed day care provider.
Participants must attend all session of the course in order to receive certification. The course consists of eight parts:

Prevention Childhood Injuries

Supervision
-
Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS)

Shaken Baby Syndrome (SBS)

Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse

Food Safety
-
Preventing Disease Transmission (PDT)

Caring for Ill Children
This class is offered for anyone interested in opening and operating a family/group day care and for current family/group providers' assistants and substitutes.

30 Hour Training Course
OCFS 9 Regulatory Topic Areas: 30 Hours Class
In this course we will address all areas of training as per NYS Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS), plus areas which are fundamental in the establishment of creating and maintaining a successful and quality family child care business. In addition, students will be able to have the opportunity through, large and small group discussions, be able to identify, improve areas of growth in class interactions.
As mandated by the NYS OCFS office, providers, assistants, caregivers, and volunteers, are required to take the 30-hour training course every two years on the the following nine (9) topics:

Principles of Childhood Development, focusing on the developmental stages of the age groups for which the program providers care

Nutrition and health needs of infants and children

Child day care program development
-
Safety and security procedures
-
Business record maintenance and management
-
Child abuse and maltreatment identification and prevention
-
Statutes and regulations pertaining to child day care
-
Statutes and regulations pertaining to child abuse and maltreatment
-
Education and information on the identification, diagnosis, and prevention of shaken baby syndrome.

Child Development Associate (CDA) Certification: 120 Hours Training Program
A Child Development Associate (CDA) certification is filled with meaningful activities that facilitate the reflective practices of working professionals in child care. This class ensures that all early care and learning professionals meet the developmental and educations needs state and nationwide. This program is essential to those who would like to advance their career and knowledge in early childhood education.
Earning a CDA credential can improve your skills and confidence in working with children. It can also increase your opportunities for advancement in the early childhood field by helping you become eligible for positions such as Director, Group Leader, and Assistant Teacher.
The CDA certification program is administered by The Council for Early Childhood Professional Recognition and is recognized in all 50 states. Obtaining a CDA creates practitioners with command of today's best practices for teaching young children.

Managing Challenging Behaviors
This course provides students with the skill-sets for child care providers when faced with challenging behaviors in a child care setting. It will provide a brief overview on the types of behaviors, methods to measure behaviors, and way to write down behavior goals.
